GENERATING ALPHA: HEDGE FUND STRATEGIES

2007 was an exceptional year in the public markets, marked with high volatility due to the subprime mortgage crisis's spillover into the broader markets. Thus far, 2008 has proven to be more challenging as widespread concern about the overall health of the US and global economies have pushed market averages into negative territory. Nonetheless, hedge funds attracted record net inflows of $195 billion during 2007, a 54% increase from 2006, raising the total global hedge fund assets under management to almost $2 trillion. While a few high profile names were forced to shut down operations during 2007, a number of funds posted spectacular results. The panel discussion will investigate how investors use various strategies to generate superior performance in turbulent markets and will cover long/short equity, activist, macro and distressed investment strategies. Furthermore, we will discuss the public markets outlook for the coming years.
